Expendables in the workforce

Age is just a number

Pull to Eject

The 2010 movie The Expendables is much like being over 50 in today’s corporate world.

Surrounded by a tsunami of Gen Z workers who think they know everything, many older workers just keep their heads down and quietly accomplish what’s possible.

Sure - HR has the 50+ year old employees in a ‘protected class,’ but the fact of the matter is, when corporate needs to cut expenses - older workers get whacked in larger numbers.

It’s short sighted to throw away the intellectual capital. But the spreadsheets always seems to favor the higher salaries and voila!

Wall Street applauds the cost cutting.

Flash forward 5-8 years - if you are really paying attention - the companies repeat the same mistakes they made before the cuts. New consultants tell the new managers that they can save money with …. fill in your own blank. Stop me if you’ve heard this before.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Don’t get caught in another spin cycle. Plan your escape.

After all, Stallone’s cringe-worthy Expendables actually won 3 awards!

Now go launch something 🚀

Cialdini shines a light on effective persuasion and reveals that the secret doesn’t lie in the message itself, but in the key moment before that message is delivered.
