Change is hard for humans

But old dogs can learn new tricks

In partnership with

Good morning Launch Key 🚀 community.

I’m 6 days into unpacking into a new house and I’m still looking for my things in places they used to be. Sure, the new house has plenty of storage, but it’s just not in the places I expect.

Change is hard – but it opens us up to all kinds of efficiency, with a little foresight.

Let's get into it.

Comment below and let me know if we’re on the right track.

Pull to Eject

I was working on a couple of topics for this week’s newsletter about writing and AI, but life got in the way.

There is nothing quite like pulling up roots after 39 years and moving to a new town.

But I’m 1 week into just that scenario. It’s the type of grunt work that AI absolutely can not handle. I’m averaging 19,000 steps a day inside these new walls.

And it’s been cathartic.

Cleaning out my old attic/garage/shed literally took 3 dumpsters, a yard sale, Facebook marketplace and truckloads of donations.

Despite what we thought was a big purge, we still brought too much stuff.

All improvement requires change, but not all change is improvement.

In moving from a 1960’s home to a 2020 home, I get fantastic efficiency improvements. Can I do the same with my own daily habits?

  • Where is the best place to write?

  • Where should I do zoom calls?

  • Can I find a couple of new places to think creatively?

  • Where does the blind dog walk? (obviously feeding time hasn’t changed 😉)

  • How should a closet be organized?

  • Can I improve our garage gym layout?

Status quo is so comfortable that it impedes real change. But moving - that’s a whole different kettle of fish.

With forced disruption, the answers can absolutely be better than before.

The beauty of moving at Christmas is you need to have the house ready when all the family visits. No rest for the weary. My step count may increase over the next week!

The upside, with some forced new thinking is I can create better habits. I’m focusing on why I did things the old way. And I’m finding new ways to use my stuff.

But I’ve also found the dump near Ocean Isle if you’re interested. 😉

Now go launch something 🚀

We have a “strategic” plan its called doing things.
